Have you ever thought about who those trolleys belong to?

I immerse myself in the world of Singapore's rough sleepers, embarking on an empathetic and introspective journey. Rather than merely documenting the lives of those who have found themselves on the margins of society, I aim to understand their daily practices, struggles, and resilience from a deeply personal perspective. This project takes a unique approach by actively participating in the practices and routines of Singapore's rough sleepers. As I was taking pictures, I realized these trolleys are cleverly utilized in how they store the items. The ways it was used to secure the items were also different from each other and this brings me to wonder how I could come up with a manual on how these people made use of such techniques to survive out in the streets with their belongings. I was also inspired by the hooks & holes.

Art Direction

The publication was designed to look like note books that could be easily obtained for a low cost and note things down. Therefore the typeface and layout were chosen to be handwritten and the treatment of the images were edited to be look like pen drawn along with the sketches that I drew personally.

The whole project was intended to let the viewers take on a new perspective of Singapore, how perhaps Singapore was portrayed as a well to do country but what about the efforts done to those minorities. There are still a group of people that are not getting help from the government and this project aims to bring light to this group of people. On an informal note, the manual guide shows and tells how perhaps this group uses different techniques to live on the streets of Singapore. The design choice was to closely resemble how perhaps these people use low-cost materials for their storage item.
